How to claim with Old Mutual Uganda
- General insurance (motor, property, accident, workers' compensation): notify Old Mutual immediately after the event on 0800 132 700 / 0800 315 315 or claimsuic@oldmutual.co.ug, with the date of loss, what happened and the name of the insured.
- Old Mutual acknowledges the claim and sends a form and the list of documents; for workers' compensation it asks for Labour Department forms 31, 35 and 87, medical notes, receipts and three months of payslips.
- After review it makes an offer by discharge voucher; once you sign and return it with your bank details, payment goes to your account.
- Life assurance: at maturity, or on the policyholder's death (next of kin), bring the original policy document, ID and, after a death, the death certificate to the head office. Old Mutual says it sends the discharge voucher within 5 working days of complete documents and pays within the next 5 working days.

What Old Mutual sells in Uganda
The personal menu of its website lists the SOMESA Plus education plan and the Sure Deal savings plan, private wealth management, unit trusts (including a dollar fund), securities trading, motor cover (COMESA, private, third party), personal accident, the Serenicare health plan, family life protection, professional liability, a domestic package and Travel Sure Plus.
- Serenicare covers outpatient, inpatient, dental and optical care, overseas referral to India and Nairobi and pre-existing chronic conditions; waiting periods are 30 days for outpatient, dental and optical and one year for chronic conditions and maternity (Old Mutual). - SOMESA Plus saves for school fees over 5 to 10 years, then pays for 1 to 5 years; children 0 to 18, policy owner 18 to 65 — compared with other plans in education policy in Uganda.
In IRA's Q4 2025 workbook, health and medical was Old Mutual General's largest class (UGX 80,796.6 million, 39.0% of its premium, our calculation), ahead of engineering (60,377.4 million); individual life made up UGX 87,780.7 million of the life company's premium.
Before you buy from Old Mutual in Uganda
- Check that the policy is issued by one of the companies above — the licensed entity, not only the brand.
